It has been a while since I grabbed my pens and started scribbling. Filed was very kind enough to pick me to try out their newest product, NeoSketch. Now, I tried it for the very first time and I shall start sharing my honest thoughts about it!

As an aspiring calligrapher, I expose myself as much as possible to various tools and materials. It is one of the best ways of finding the tools you are most comfortable. Not only that, but it would also be helpful in your own art journey. Right?

So, this is the first time that I was chosen to try out their new products. Believe me, I am not used to this as I mostly buy the pens myself after I hear about it from my friends or the artists I admire. Today, it changes. I’ll be the one to share my thoughts to aspirants and the responsibility is somewhat heavy for it can influence you greatly on whether to buy or not.

As much as possible, I’ll be sharing my most honest opinion about the product. So sit back, relax and continue reading!

The Packaging

I honestly love the way it looked when I opened it. It was inside a white box and then wrapped in a red paper. It’s such a great way of looking forward to Valentine’s Day!

For ladies like me who are inclined in the art world, this is the kind of gift that we would love to receive! So to the gents who are reading this, you should get one of these and and give it to your partners!

How the pens look

When I opened the pens, I was shocked! It had two tips. One broad edge and one fine tip. The broad edge is great for lettering and illustrating and the fine tip doubles as the brush tip. The brush tip can be used for light touch-ups, brush strokes and for illustrating as well!

Using the NeoSketch Markers

When I tried these pens out, I used Limelight’s SketchBook which has thick papers that can cater to the inks of various brush pens.

So now, let’s go on to what I discovered when I tried these out:

• It’s easy to use in terms of writing, doodling and even illustrating.
• Mixing can be done pen to pen and also with the use of a waterbrush pen.
• Since it’s blendable with water, it may be used as a watercolor and aid you to create gradients. From a single color provided in the label, blending it will allow you to discover and create a new palette.
• The ink is water-based therefore it does not emit or possess any odor. Moreover, inks are very pigmented and really show the true color on the covers.
• Brush tips is flexible and soft so if you’re going to use it, be careful not to damage it. Light pressure may be needed.
• Price wise, it is very affordable. At Php 525 ($ 10 roughly), you can have a dozen of markers!

Those are the positive things that I discovered upon using it. Of course, there are the negative things about it too and here’s what are those:

• When I opened the pens and tried them, I noticed that there were small frays but I shrugged it off and continued writing. It still produced wonderful outcome!
• In layering your strokes, paper may get little tears so it’s advisable to let the first layer dry out first before writing down the second layer.

The Outcome

Here’s the output of what I wrote on a Limelight Sketchbook using Filed’s NeoSketch markers. Some may need time in figuring out the best way for them to use it but once you do, you’ll get the hang of it.

Frankly, these markers are part of my favorites now!
