Say No to Clutter: Things You Should Definitely Get Rid Of
Look around and you will see your home stuffed with things from your past, that you don’t really need. Is there a reason all these objects to take from your free space, while they serve no purpose? The answer is “no”, you need to clean your house and get rid of them immediately.
Moreover, it is proven that all the clutter can prevent you from having efficient rest, and even make you feel even throttling. Some people even consider the cluttering of all the stuff as a psychologically state of the mind, when you are attached to the objects, no matter if they are useful or no. It is time to throw the luggage of the past away and make space for your new adventures.
Start from somewhere
You need to start from somewhere, but the first thing you need to do is to adjust your mind to that thought.
Be ruthless in this undertaking and start to ask yourself questions such as,
- “When was the last time I used it?” or
- “Is it significant to me in some way?”
- Be ruthless and don’t compromise.
Empty all the drawers, wardrobes and cupboards, and see what is it in them. You may be surprised by the things you will find in them. Look everything item by item and check for broken or not functioning objects. These you definitely don’t need. Forget about the attachment to the old toys of the kids, which are already broken and immediately get rid of them.
Look in the drawers
It is a small world of items, which you may find in the drawers. Let’s face it. Everybody has collected newspapers or magazine from the last century, which are already old and with yellow pages. I bet you will never read them again.
So, the answer for a clean and less cluttered home is just in front of you- get rid of them. You can give it for recycling, which is the best or just throw them away. No matter which one do you prefer, you will manage to organise the drawers and create a lot of space.
This is valid also for old papers and documents, which you are sure you will not need, but keep them to remind you of your success in previous careers. These only accumulate dust and creates more cleaning duties for you.
Now, dive in the depths of your wardrobe and go “fishing” for the old clothes, which you don’t wear any more. Everything, which it doesn’t fit you anymore should not have place in your wardrobe. It is ungrounded to keep all these clothes, while you are not wearing.
Consider only the idea how many people could benefit from having them and go to donate them. In this way you solve four problems:
a cleaner space, create organisation out of the mess, help people and save the unnecessary folding.
The other things, which we all have, but we don’t really want to admit it are the unwanted presents. It is true that a present should not be thrown away, but if it is your driving thought, you may appear to be stuck in a pile of things, which you even don’t like.
Donate!
This is the best thing, which you can do. Of course, your other option is to make a garage sale and to get rid of the unnecessary things, while earning even money.
Getting rid of the old stuff in your home will help you organise your free space and re-order your place. This, on the other hand, is the biggest step to having peace of mind at home. You don’t really need all this relics, which keep the spirit of the past.
Now, just to add. I’ve been trying to declutter and live a more minimalist lifestyle. What I practice, I look at all the stuff that I have right now and sometimes I feel suffocated. Up until a friend of mine introduced Humble Sustainability. Through them, I get to declutter my flat and even my mind by letting go of the stuff that I haven’t used for quite some time already.
You live now and tomorrow is about to come- past will never come back again. Don’t allow it permeate your home and mind!
Don’t forget to pin this!

Are you ready to clean and declutter your place?
Here’s how to become a Humbler today!

This post is very timely. Most of my friends are decluttering as a way to welcome 2018. I also did a few sorting and decluttering. I threw a few trash, saved a lot of bags, clothes, and toys for donation, and gave lots of mugs and even a vanity table. Decluttering declutters the mind, too. Ihihi.
I usually purge at the start of every year. It’s my way of getting rid of clutter and at the same time making space for the new. 🙂 I have yet to purge my clothes again. I also need to purge my kids’ clothes and donate them to our church.
This is a helpful reminder at the beginning of the new year. Each year,I declutter home and get rid of unwanted things including clothes. Each month I make it a habit to declutter home with bags, newspapers and any unwanted things. In this way,it is easy to live in a small home. Also ,decluttering helps me to work in relax mood 🙂
Hey, enjoyed reading & love your sharing here. I have learnt lots of tips from your sharing. This is just in time as am now getting busy for my house spring cleaning to prepare for our upcoming festive Chinese New Year soon. So, gonna control myself as well as reminding my family members not to simply keep things as declutter really not an easy task to do. Gonna improve it in 2018. cheers, siennylovesdrawing
I love getting rid of clutter especially since we live in a condo. The only thing I hate is as soon as I get rid of something I all of a sudden have a need for it. It really bothers me but I try and fight that thinking. I try and do it by area. By room is just to big an undertaking even for a condo dweller like me. Then make piles of to keep, to throw, and to give away.
