What to watch next: Recreate

One of the reasons why I keep coming back to Benilde: to watch amazing theatrical shows created, directed, or even produced by the student body. Back then, I used to watch these shows a lot. Not only because I have friends in the production theme but it’s a wonderful experience. Fast forward to 2019, here’s a show called Recreate that enticed me once more. But why?

Behind Recreate

Danielle O. De Vera’s Recreate is bringing you summer this coming July 2019 at DLS-CSB’s SDA Blackbox

Recreate is a series of non – narrative dances which features the use of organic sounds heard around the beach and its surroundings showcasing how each element can portray the sound itself. A dance production directed and choreographed by Danielle O. De Vera, it will be performed at the DLS-CSB’s SDA Blackbox this July 4 and 5, 2019.

The production aims to form anew in the imagination of contemporary hip hop, minimalistic music, and dynamic movements using 3 senses – what you hear, what you see, and what you feel can recreate movement and music. It features the use of organic sounds heard around the beach and its surroundings showcasing how each element can portray the sound itself.

Get to know the director behind Recreate

Danielle de Vera is currently a 4th year college student at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde with a degree of Bachelor of Performing Arts in Dance. She started formal training with contemporary and liturgical/worship dance in her church where Mr. Sol Fernandez is her mentor. Aside from that, her mentor for hip-hop is Derrick Valdellon, alumni of LSDC-Street.

She is currently one of the head choreographers and senior member in Team Elite who competed last Remix 2015 and bagged 1st place for the org-division. Other than that, she is also a current member of LMN dance crew who represented the Philippines and bagged 5th place for the mega crew division in Hip Hop International Worlds in Arizona, USA just this August.

Moreover, she joined the production called Beneath, a dance thesis, and Excerpts of Swan Lake. Some of the dances she was able to perform were Little Swans, Flamingos and Good day Sunshine by The Beatles choreographed by her.
