It has been years since I started writing on a blog but I haven’t had a full grasp of what web hosting can do to your blog until now.
Reasons Why You Need Web Hosting
Back in the day, I used to write through Multiply (before it became a marketplace) then after a short while, through Tumblr. If only I can show you, it contained my diary posts. As you see, I was so lazy back then to really write in a diary with those padlocks which can be opened by almost any key that has the same lock. I do hope my mom and aunts did not try to open mine. The serious side started two (2) years ago and it was a school requirement for my art class.
That was a short back story on how I really started blogging.
Just some months ago, I wanted to feel and know what can web hosting do to your blog. I researched the pros and cons and the numerous companies that offer it. I’m glad to say that my domain name provider, has a package that is suitable for a person like me.
By definition, it is a type of internet service that allows creation of a website that is accessible via the internet to everyone. [Source: Pangalan.com] In a sense, you rent space on a computer to hold your website. Your host, the computer where your website files are stored, assigns an address (DNS) for your files to your domain name so that anyone can find your website on the Internet by typing in your domain name. On Blogging
Availing of this kind of service is beneficial to the user. There are free one (I used to have mine on Blogger) and the self-hosted ones. But here are my reasons why it is good for bloggers and this is based on my experience.
Reasons why self-hosted blogs are good:
- I can customize it to the way I want it.
- I actually stopped being worried that Google may take down my blog.
- It’s your space on the world wide web. Moreover, you are free to call it your own space!
- I got more motivated to write.
To name a few cons:
- It may cost you money.
- Looking for the suitable plan (or host) for your needs may be hard.
Months ago, I was deeply contemplating on leveling up my blog. I continuously researched on which provider should I choose or what plan should I avail. Luckily, my domain provider, Pangalan.com, gave me a trial period of six (6) months and honestly, I would definitely renew and avail of their service again.
Why did I decide to renew?
- Their support was the best that I’ve ever encountered! They have helped me with the move from Blogger to WordPress and even with the rerouting of my emails and all the technical stuff. Honestly, I’m no hardcore techie person so I really need the help. Lucky as I am, they catered to my needs as soon as they can.
Basically, that’s one thing that you really need to consider in looking for a service provider if you are planning to have a self-hosted blog.
- It is affordable!
As a person living on a budget, they have options if you’ll pay every 6 months or for 12 months. You may also choose from two kinds of plans: PN Sakto or PN Laki. Currently, I’m using the PN Sakto plan. Little as you may know, I’ve consulted my IT friends on which should I choose and which suits me best.
- It’s from a Filipino brand.
And as you might notice, I’m starting to love local products more and more. So there you go!

On Work
Availing of this kind of service may really be good for your work or business. Having your own site for your business can be so beneficial since most of the people are almost online 24/7. Plus, it’s really a different vibe then you have your own site and email address; it’s a powerful marketing tool!
Things to consider:
- Having your own site means your own site means people can trust you as an entrepreneur or as a professional.
- Considering yourself as a business owner, it’s more appealing to future clients to have your own email address:
e.g. ask@workwithme.com
- It’s a marketing tool that you can use to your own advantage.

On Yourself
This can be really a powerful tool to brand yourself. You may be a blogger looking for more opportunities? You may be a brand looking for bloggers/employees to help you?
To be honest, having your own space is really like one of the best things ever. You may think of it like an achievement, and it really is! It’s like promoting yourself to another level or giving yourself an award for the hard work you have been doing in pursuing the things you love.
Pangalan.com offers two plans for web hosting. Those are the PN Sakto and PN Laki.
So are you or are you not going to think about getting a web host for your blog, work or yourself? 😊
Disclaimer: Pangalan.com gave me a trial period of six (6) months for the web hosting. For the renewal, I personally paid for it. All opinions are mine.

October 25, 2016 at 2:27 PMWeb hosting really is a natural progression from trying blogging to becoming more serious. I have always had my own domains and learned all about it back in the early days of the WWW. I was already connecting to the internet via gopher, before WWW was born.
Web hosting has come a long way, and the only thing I can say, is to go for reliable host at the same time, keeping an eye for another host. Just in case. Hosting companies may be good today, but many of them turn for the worse in time. It is rare for one hosting company to remain the best for many years.

November 1, 2016 at 11:41 AMMost of the bloggers now are just buying domain and leaves the hosting with Blogspot or WordPress. I love my self-hosting too because I can do everything with it and it’s mine. I think self hosting is better at SEO too and many affiliates wanted self-hosted blogs more. It has so many advantages. I heard about Pangalan.com and I hope this local company soars high.

November 2, 2016 at 9:54 PMSo coincidental that I recently blogged about blogging too. I think getting a host is one of the best things I ever did. I sacrificed page rankings, but I retained my content and comments. Starting from scratch is tough, but it was so worth it. I recommend people to get hosted too!

November 3, 2016 at 12:53 AMIf one is really interested in making blogging a full-time hobby/job, getting a web host is really a necessity. For a photographer like me, I needed to put up a portfolio so that clients would check out my works. Getting your own domain name and hosting makes you more professional because people will see that you have invested time and resources for your blog. It’s also wise to choose your host which can help you when you encounter problems on your website. The faster they respond, the better.

November 4, 2016 at 9:56 PMWhen I started this year on my blog, I decided to buy my own domain and just get the free hosting. I bought my domain in namecheap and then try 000webhosting. The drawback in free hosting was that I could not get any technical support from them. I asked a friend of mine and he told me to try warpline which is cheap and give a good service too. So far, I haven’t had any problems with my hosting. I am not techie too and their support group is always on the go whenever I need help.

November 18, 2016 at 10:34 AMVery perfect reasons. I too shifted from blogspot for the same reasons. And I don’t regret one bit.

November 28, 2016 at 11:58 AMWeb hosting gives you the freedom and power you need to build your site-up from the ground, and tweak your site to be SEO compliant. One must consider the risks involve too, like losing access or lost database. It is important that not only you, but also your webhost provider keeps updated back-up, and the hosting company helping you out to restore your site after an attack.

December 6, 2016 at 9:51 AMHonestly, i do not understand these things months ago. And my web developer friend would patiently reorient me a dozen times. I got mine just a few months ago because I believe I need to grow. And yes, it feels good typing your domain name and having your own space without worrying for other forces to seize or close your site. Need to check Pangalan for my renewal.

January 26, 2017 at 7:18 AMA web host plays a crucial part on your blogging journey. If you want to step up in the game, you need to have a bigger and wider arsenal. Compared to the free ones, you are limited to the things you can do while when you have your own web host, the possibilities are endless. This is something most bloggers failed to take into consideration.

August 5, 2017 at 2:25 PMI am thinking of getting mine too because I would like to transfer from Blogger to WordPress. And it is great to know that they help you with that process too!
