Our Queen’s Birthday

On July 16, our Queen Redillas was born. Now, she rules the household and her plants. Here’s how we spent her birthday.

Our Queen’s Birthday

On July 16, it’s the Queen Redillas’ birthday. We spent it differently than most of the time. It was a simple and intimate celebration among us.

It started on the afternoon of July 15 when we went to Camarines Sur and met my aunt there. We had dinner at Max’s located at SM Naga. Dinner was spent with some of tita’s colleagues.

Although, the most annoying part of the dinner was the flies. Not only that but also the service of the staff. There were lapses but we didn’t let that affect the yumminess of the food served.

After dinner, we went to Bigg’s BMC and chilled. We stayed for their acoustic night which was really fun! The place looks really amazing.

We had an order of Extreme Platter, fries, salad, hot tea and some bottles of beer.

After spending the night there, we went back to the office. We stayed at tita’s room in her office and slept there.

July 16, 2016

This is the birthday itself! We started the day by celebrating mass at the Carmelite convent. We did not stay inside church as mom felt more comfortable seated outside since she had cough. The whole place was serene, tranquil and really peaceful. The mass was solemn.

My mom and aunt are devotees of the Scapular, it has been included in their list to celebrate mass here. I was in awe when I stepped inside the church; it was really nice. I mean, the floral arrangements and the colors. It was just so tranquil.

Of course, after the mass, that’s the only time I captured the photos.

Of course, after the photo op my aunt and I had our share of taho!

To those who may not know what taho is, it is  a Philippine snack food made of fresh soft/silken tofu, arnibal, and sago pearl. This staple comfort food is a signature sweet and taho peddlers can be found all over the country. (Source)

I’ll skip the part where my aunt had a quick inspection with some of the retail outlets with a co-employee. After the inspection, we went to their friend’s house. We had our lunch there. They were able to catch up with each other since it has been so long since they talked. After which, we came back to Naga.

When we reached the The Avenue Plaza Hotel, we checked in and rested. I was so giddy when I saw the grand piano and instantaneously asked the front desk guy if people are allowed to play. He said only if you are skilled enough to avoid damaging the piano.

After resting, we had our dinner at Chili Peppers at Avenue Plaza. We did not go that far since we woke up very early that day and did not sleep well due to the acoustic night the previous day. Basically, after we ate we went back to the hotel and rested.

The food we ordered were:


Grilled Liempo


Pork chop with mashed potato


Chocolate shake


Lechon Kawali with Bagoong Rice



The photo only shows a part of the order. I took the photo after we started eating the nachos. We were really hungry! Haha!

Mom had the lechon kawali with bagoong rice. Tita had the grilled liempo (or pork) with the java rice. Our appetizer was the nachos (obviously) and I had the pork chop. The beef salpicao was for sharing.

Just a note though, one order is already good for two! An order would range from Php 150-400 and that still depends on the food. I forgot to take note of the prices.

After dinner, we went back to the hotel to rest. Since the pool was unavailable, I just took a dip in the tub. After which, I ordered for a non-caffeinated chocolate frappe through room service.

Then it was time to rest.

July 17, 2016

The day after pig out birthday was started by waking up and having the breakfast buffet at the hotel. The buffet starts by 6am. We went down around 8am and a lot of people were there having their sumptuous breakfast.

After breakfast, we headed to the Basilica where we celebrated mass.

I will always be in awe for the stained glass windows inside the church. Back then, I used to join my family during Peñafrancia Festival. But now, time has changed so we celebrate mass there on a different time.

After the mass, we went back to the hotel where I played the piano. My fingers were somehow uncomfortable with all the people around. I played some of my classical pieces. After, we went back to our room to pack our things and prepared to go home.

As we were on our way back to Legazpi, I was just asleep the whole trip. When I woke up, we were just a few kilometers away from our home. When we arrived, we had to prepare for the guests because mom’s friends were coming over.

I had to help entertain others because she was also busy with the other visitors. I helped in operating the videoke at our home and sang a few bars. (Good thing it did not rain! Haha!) The night ended around 10pm and my tita went back to Naga because she has work the next day. Good thing there was a service.

As they say, all in a day’s work!


I would definitely miss the fast internet back at the hotel; as well as the comfortable bed, pillows, tub and the room service.


Nothing beats home. No matter what!

    What a lovely and intimate way to celebrate a birthday. It’s great also that you made it home to Naga. All I ever know is that it is a pilgrim’s paradise. I’d love to go there and see the churches.

      Actually, we’re from Legazpi. Haha! But we consider Naga our second home too. You must see them! Try visiting on September 🙂

    That sounds like you had a terrific celebration. I would really like to drink that chocolate shake! But all the food looks tasty. And the basilica is beautiful too. I don’t know much about the Queen, but I’d like to learn more.

    I’ve never been in Naga before, but I’d love to visit it one day. The food looks yummy, especially the Beef Salpicao!! 🙂

    It seems like you had an enjoyable time. The food at the restaurant looks very yummy and the terrace in the first night seems very cosy. Shame about the flies.

    Surely your queen enjoyed her day. Going to church is what we always do on our big day. Best time to thank god of all the blessing and miracles he gave us. The church looks amazing and the food is mouthwatering

    We have few things in common. I secretly call my mom the queen mother. She speaks, walks, and gestures as one. I also love the fast internet service of a hotel same with their pillows and bed. But then, yes, nothing beats home. It surely was a great celebration. Happy mother to the queen – super belated, i mean. 🙂
