Making a statement with your hair can be a whole lot of fun. It grows back, so it really isn’t like getting a tattoo, or even a piercing. Your pretty locks will grow, color will usually wash out – so how can we improve the quality to make a statement?
Are You Ready to Make a Statement with Your Hair?
Making a statement with your hair can be a whole lot of fun. Hair grows back, so it really isn’t like getting a tattoo, or even a piercing. Your mane will grow, the color will usually wash out – so although you are making a short-term commitment, you won’t be stuck with the decisions you’re making now forever.
So, if you’re sick of the hair you have now, then it’s time to make a statement.
Read on to figure out what you can do.
#1 Add Volume
Sometimes you don’t even need to change your color or style to make a statement. You can simply add a ton of volume to your locks to create drama and add impact. You don’t have to look like Dolly Parton either – you can add as much volume as you feel comfortable with. There are all kinds of ways of adding volume, and some of them are fantastic for even fine hair!
Take a look at the list below to see what you can do to add volume to your mane:
- Use a texturizing spray like salt spray to add texture to your hair and give it some oomph.
- Spray dry shampoo in the roots even if you have clean hair. It’ll add some volume and texture. It’s great for when you’re throwing your hair up into a messy bun or ponytail.
- Backcombing your hair can give you lots of volume but you need to make sure you do it right. Buy a special backcombing brush to use – and don’t forget to brush out the backcomb at the end of the day, or you’ll wreck the condition of your hair.
- Using a volumizing shampoo and conditioner can help.
- Use volumizing products before drying your hair.
You know what Dolly Parton says – the higher the hair, the higher to heaven. Even a little volume can make a huge difference to your look!
#2 Watch Some YouTube Tutorials
Think you’re no good with hair? Stop making excuses.
One of the easiest things to do is watch a couple of YouTube tutorials and practice a few new styles. Some of the most beautiful styles around at the moment involve fancy plaits pinned in different directions to create a number of cool hair styles.
You can really get creative and make your own up when you know the basics and you have the right tools. A good rule is to make sure you check your hair from all angles in a mirror before using hair spray or leaving the house, just to make sure it looks exactly as you want it to look.
#3 Try Hair Jewellry
Hair jewellery is a fairly new trend, but it can look really cool and emphasize the hairstyle like never before. Whether you’ve created a cute high pony or you’re wearing a fishtail braid, hair jewellery will add an edge.
It’s absolutely perfect for festivals, or when you simply want to make a statement on your night out. Try it for something a little different – you’ll likely receive numerous comments.
#4 Get It All Cut Off
People often talk about getting their hair all cut off, yet they never do it. Going for a bob when you have long hair can be scary, but it’s also really exciting and can make you feel brand new.
Although natural hairstyles are still beautiful, it can be a lot of fun to try out shorter hairstyles and see how you feel about them.
#5 Try A Crazy Color
Colors like pink, blue, purple, and other bright and crazy colors are all the rage right now. Why not dye it according to your favorite color and see how it suits you. You can buy semi permanent box dyes to do it yourself, but remember that you need to be really light for it to work – it will tell you this on the box. You can’t be annoyed if you end up dying it and doesn’t take because it’s so dark.
There are special colors formulated for dark hair now, though, so make sure you have a look for them. If you’re ever unsure, it’s always going to be better to visit a salon as they’ll be able to get the color nice and even for you.
Don’t forget to wash your hair with special shampoo afterward if you want it to last longer.
#6 Go for the Haircut You’ve Always Wanted to Try
Is there a haircut you’ve always thought about trying but you’ve been too scared to go for it? Get out of your comfort zone!
It grows back, so live a little. Maybe you want to get a fringe, cut it off, get some layers, or go for a full on pixie crop.
Life is just too short not to try out the hairstyles that you really want to try.
#7 Wear A Wig
One super easy way to change your hairstyle without making any commitment at all – wearing a wig.
This might seem silly, but wigs are becoming better quality these days, and they are not noticeable at all when applied to the head properly. They can look just like real hair, so nobody will be any the wiser. You definitely won’t have a super shiny mop of hair on your head that looks synthetic.
Providing you buy from a reputable retailer, it’s a good idea to invest in a wig. Put it this way: you’d likely spend a lot more money maintaining your current hairstyle, or you’d end up spending lots of money fixing it if it went wrong. It’s a great way to make a change.
#8 Add Some Extensions
Finally, hair extensions could be the answer to all of your prayers if you want some length, thickness, or to add color without actually dying your own locks.
There are some really high-quality clip ins around at the moment, or you could go for a tape in method, easy locks, or something else that suits your type. Always go to a pro if you decide to have them put in properly, or your hair could end up falling out!
We hope all these will help you achieve the hairstyle and statement that you’ve been dreaming of for so long!

May 9, 2018 at 11:02 PMGreat tips! I can definitely say from experience that getting the haircut you’ve always wanted is totally worth it! 🙂 Hair grows so there’s no reason not to get a little experimental. I’ll have to try some other tips for your list next time I’m feeling like making a statement.

May 14, 2018 at 9:48 AMHair jewelry sounds like so much fun. I have really long, really straight hair and I’m always thinking I should be going something with it! I need to do some searching on you tube for easy tutorials. Maybe I can make a statement after all!

May 15, 2018 at 8:03 AMI’ve been going through some changes by keeping fit and some have suggested that I also change my hairstyle. I was never a daring person when it came to fashion. You could say I always played on the safe side. I would love to try and go short but I’m just too afraid that it would look horrible! Some great suggestions here though like go for volume.

June 6, 2018 at 11:59 PMI always envy those on YT vids ‘caus they can make bold statement in their hair. I badly wanted to have a bold color but my work is teaching and we are prohibited to have that. Anyway, can you reco some sea salt spray that’s good? Been spotting some for a long time now but it’s a little costly for me.
