Five Ideas For a Fun Family Day
Valentine’s Day is by far the best known holiday in February, but did you know Family Day is only a few days away? It’s one that I love, and being someone that gets a little too excited for holidays I wanted to share my ideas for Family Day this year!
Set up an outdoor theater
Watching a movie outside on a nice day is amazing, and there are so many ways to make this happen! Just bring some lawn chairs outside and project your movie on a white screen, wall, or even a shower curtain! You can make it as fancy if you want by setting up pillows or lights outside.
Either way, grab those snacks and blankets! Here are some great outdoor movie setup ideas if you need inspiration or tech help.
And if you’re looking to change it up, check out Pure Flix for your movie needs. They offer clean content that is perfect for any audience (especially the kids)!
Speaking of the kids, get them involved by having them help set up and learn some of the tech stuff along the way.
Make a bonfire or campfire in your backyard
Who doesn’t love a good bonfire? I personally prefer it to be a little chilly outside, so February is just right (at least where I live! Bookmark this idea for later if it’s still snowing where you are). Making a bonfire is easier than you might think!
You’ll need bricks, wood, kindling and fuel. If you prefer a little less work setting up your fire, you can buy an outdoor patio fire pit instead. This way, you can re-use it as many times as you’d like. Invite your friends and cook up some s’mores or hotdogs.
Have fun with it, but remember to be cautious around the fire and keep an eye out for the kids. This is an excellent time to teach them how to build a fire, fire safety, and really work with their hands!
Go bowling
If you prefer a simple task that doesn’t involve a lot of prep work, bowling is my go-to choice because it’s cheap and fun. I love going at night because the glow lights turn on and music is bumping!
Invite your friends for some friendly competition and food. Ask for bumpers to help get your children excited if they don’t bowl often.
Believe it or not, bowling is a great way to improve their social skills by teaching them the importance of working as part of a team.
Make play-dough
It’s recently become an Internet sensation and you see it all over Youtube, but making slime or play-dough has never been more in.
Play-dough is super easy to make! You just need flour, salt, water, vegetable oil, and food coloring, which you most likely already have in your kitchen. To make slime, you only need glue, water, and salt!
Play around with mixing colors and teach your kids the science behind the chemicals! Store the contents in a ziplock baggie, so you can play with it again later.
Card games
This one is super versatile because there are hundreds of games you can play using just a deck of cards! UNO and War are pretty big crowd pleasers in our home, and for adults games like Spit and Rummy/Gin never get old.
I love that card games are accessible to all ages and it’s great for the little ones to improve their fine motor skills!
Don’t forget to pin this!

I hope these ideas helped inspire some of your own for a fun Family Day! Spending time with family doesn’t have to be a one-person task. Get your kids to help plan the day.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and can’t wait to see what you end up doing with your family!
How are you going to spend Family Day? ☺

Great ideas! I also like playing board games with the family! The outdoor theater sounds like a cozy idea 🙂
Thanks so much Natalie 🙂
I love slime because whenever I touch and feel the slime it is so satisfying to me and I love doing my account because it’s is so much fun posting slimes of my own to show it to people!!! My slime account is @pokey.slimes
There are many fun things families can do to have fun at home without breaking the bank. I love your bonfire suggestion. We have not done this yet, though. So, maybe this summer we can do this with our boys. 🙂 One of our favorite card games on family nights is Uno. 🙂
Outdoor theater and bonfire sounds great! I’ve always been fascinated by drive ins and outdoor movies. For me it would actually be a perfect date. Add to that a bonfire and it would be perfect. Toasting marshmallows and late night stories…
I love these ideas! An outdoor theater is truly awesome, I have always wanted to experience those outdoor films and this is probably the closest we can get to that. Making play dough and bowling is also on my list as I grew up spending Saturdays while my Papa plays bowling and it would be great to have my little one experience it.
