Where To: Online Tutorials

Online Tutorials

Online tutorials are almost everywhere when it comes to calligraphy. Here are some remarkable tutorials found to be quite helpful.

Online Tutorials

As I scoured through the internet in search for helpful tips and tricks for a leftie like me, here are some of the many tutorials that I discovered to be quite helpful. Online tutorials vary from person to person or channel to channel but what’s common among them is they would want to help and teach us, aspirants, to be better.

People encounter tutorials almost everywhere about various things. From DIY crafts to cooking to art-related things. For a person like me who has been living on allowance and freelance stuff, attending paid workshops could be challenging since those really do not come in cheap. The result it, to look for communities or tutorials online for free. Others may think about it negatively yet, it’s better to start with something that will not require you to spend so much especially if you are just exploring with a new craft/hobby to do. There’s always the thought that you may not pursue it after a few weeks of practicing so the side of being frugal or practical will kick in.

That is exactly what happened with me when I was a lot younger, I wanted to learn to play an instrument and I started attending lessons and had to practice with an electronic keyboard/organ. After years of learning and playing, my family then bought me a piano (which is still present at our home).

Before I lose track of the focus of this post, here’s the list of the tutorials I’ve seen/read that aided me with my calligraphy journey (this is both leftie and rightie tutorials):

Dawn Nicole Designs

She is an Air Force wife and mother of three, a leftie. I discovered her site while I was browsing through Pinterest. She is a leftie and uses brush pens for her creative works. You can check this community for free tutorials and goodies.

Inkstruck Studio

The person behind Inkstruck Studio is Zakkiya (zah-kee-yuh) and she is the artist, founder and the creating beautiful works at the blog. I came across her blog/site Β while browsing for tips for using watercolor and her posts are so helpful! You can see her on Pinterest too.

Inkerella

She is a leftie that I found on Youtube while I was looking for brush pen calligraphy tutorials. From her blog, she is a speech-language pathologist by day and a card maker by night and on weekends. It was from her Youtube channel that I saw so many helpful tips for lefties regarding using different kinds of brush pens and techniques.

Those are just few of the tutorials you can check or see when you try calligraphy or watercolor. What I did was just to search on Google/Youtube/Pinterest and the rest is history.

Here are some tips for searching tutorials that I gained through experience:

  • Be straight to the point especially with what do you want to learn. — Some may be tough to find but others will just come your way eventually.
  • Keywords are so helpful!
  • In using Pinterest, it helps if you create a board for it so you could just go back when you want to check it out again or read.
  • For Youtube tutorials, I created a playlist for all calligraphy videos/tutorials that have been helping me with the journey and it’s indeed helpful. I could easily go back to the videos with the use of the playlist.

Those are just a few and I hope it helps you!

Remember not to stop researching.

I don’t have a talent when it comes to these kind of things because I seriously have a bad penmanship! But I always tried lettering but it’s not really good. Do you think people like me can try calligraphy even with a bad penmanship? I know that’s impossible. LOL. But thanks for sharing this, I have lots of friends who are interested in calligraphy and I will definitely share this to them. πŸ™‚

I don’t believe that you don’t have a talent. Everything can be learned. And from experience, I really just practice like an hour a day. It acted as my stress reliever as well. πŸ™‚

It seems I don’t know much about calligraphy. I thought modern calligraphy is just something that you do… sort of like doodling. I didn’t know it’s like other arts that you have to learn patiently. πŸ™‚ I’m sure a lot of people who’re into calligraphy will find this list of online tutorials useful.

Art is really part of my life ever since. This post reminded me of school days like you need to beautify your projects. My sister is also into calligraphy and I’m going to share this post with her. I will also try this if I have free time. I will then post my works on my IG account! I need to be artsy again πŸ˜€

Let me gush on the wonders of modern technology. Whatever it is, you are bound to find tutorial using YouTube. And so, it really is convenient and easy to learn for anyone who wants to. There is no excuse in not knowing and waiting for someone to teach. It’s not only on YouTube. Countless web sites do that too.
