The Six-Year Itch

The Six-Year Itch is about a new adventure we took during our anniversary. Being together for six years surely taught us so many! Here’s how it went.

The Six Year Itch

The title of this post is somehow a parody or a pirated version of the movie, The Seven Year Itch. It starred Marilyn Monroe which is one of the icons that I truly admire. Other than Audrey Hepburn, of course. Many of you don’t know that in my almost 24 years of existence, I do love watching classic movies. From Charlie Chaplin silent movies to talkies to Audrey Hepburn’s Breakfast at Tiffanys to some of the films that starred Marilyn Monroe. I am forever amazed on how they did back then when technology was still limited and what we have now is basically fiction for them.

Having adventures is one of the things that makes me giddy. I daydream of going on bungee jumping or even sky cycling. But what excites me more is if Sam joins me on having these adventures. The way I see it, doing things with each other can really be helpful in letting the both of you grow.

To be honest, it’s one of the keys to having a successful and happy relationship. Communicating with one another is really the key that unravels everything. Supporting each other in their endeavors is another. Exploring the world together is rewarding!

From my previous post, Lovestruck March, I shared that we just celebrated our 6th year together. Normally, I do not write posts about us because he likes to keep it private. However, I would love to share but not overshare. This year, we decided to try something new together for the very first time. Lo and behold, we tried archery!

Trying Archery

The Six Year Itch: Archery

Kodanda Archery

Archery is a sport that I have been admiring from afar. I see this in movies and series, which I prefer nowadays. Oliver Queen is one badass character that uses a bow and arrow as a primary weapon. The same goes to Katniss Everdeen and Susan Pevensie who are real badass women archers.

I got fascinated when I saw my uncle started crafting bows and arrows for work. It started when he retired from his former job to pursue what I think he must really love. Few years back, we visited him in his house and there I saw the target papers, the bows to be finished. It was an amazing view for a kid like me. Then, my amusement for the sport started.

It was unexpected that I’d stumble upon a blog post about their first archery experience. The post was really helpful since it gave information about an archery range that’s near our area. That’s how I learned about Kodanda Archery Range.

Since it’s our first time, we made sure that our experience would be memorable. I’m the one who’s into drafting itineraries more and arranging reservations. So, luckily, they’re on Facebook and I sent them a message. Be careful as well since their branches have different Facebook pages. It’s quite convenient since you could converse with the branch near you, directly. For that, I contacted their branch at Mall of Asia. They were really courteous and accommodating. 👍🏼

The Experience

The Six Year Itch

Feeling Oliver Queen and Katniss Everdeen

Since we were lefties, we were assigned a different kind of bow. A bow that catered to our special need. They gave us a primer (or basic instructions) on how to hold our bows, place the arrows and ultimately, release it. There also rules to follow like tying your hair since loose hair may cause trouble. Then wearing proper attire before shooting. Lucky for us, we both were following the dress code. So no trouble on that part! 😊

There’s a promo for the month of March, 50% off on weekdays. On weekends, the rate will be back to the normal rate. The regular rate is Php 590 per person. It includes the target paper, unlimited arrows, basic instructions, the gear you need and fun for an hour.

For an hour, we enjoyed shooting unlimited arrows, taking photos in between and purely having fun. Even if we just had a few photos or videos, we had tons and tons of fun together! 💙

Holding the arrow

There are rules to follow as well before, during, and after shooting arrows. A series of whistling sounds may be heard to signal when to start shooting, returning the bow to the rack, getting the arrows and assembling the bow and arrow. 🏹

The lady there took our photos. She was very kind to ask us if we already had photos together.

What amuses me is that there was a little girl (who I think was with her mom) who was practicing there too. I felt a bit insecure because she was able to hit the target and I just hit the closer part. Nevertheless, she gave me hope to just continue trying and practice until I have some progress.

But of course, after practicing archery, we both got hungry. So we went looking for a place to eat and ended up going to Makati. After which, we both watched a movie called Get Out. The movie is quite good and will surely make you think!

Yet, this experience really taught me some new things.

Realizations

The Six Year Itch

Boomerang-ing with Stephen

Just because you have been together with your significant other for years, that doesn’t mean you should stop doing new things. I realized that even if we have been together for years, we so enjoy doing activities together. Even if I usually suck at sports and he’s the active one but with this, there was no competition whatsoever. However, doing activities together shouldn’t only be done on special days or occasions. Like Valentine’s Day shouldn’t be only celebrate for one day a year. You should always make your special someone feel loved all year round!

Spending the day together was quite recharging for me. Even if there’s an internal struggle going on with myself, I learned to let that go and just be merry about things. It gave me a positive energy that gave me light on how to deal with things differently. It may not be the usual way of celebrating anniversaries but spending it with your special someone is always the best thing ever. Just being together wherever you may be, is the best. 💙

Hey there! Happy anniversary for the both of you! Six years is a milestone, indeed! For me naman, as someone who’s already married and has children already, we try to keep the celebration as simple as possible. But when we’re still in the BF/GF stage, we usually dine-out and spend the day together. Haha! Lagi kaming on a tight budget kasi ever since. But whenever we have the chance to try out new things, kahit walang occasion at meron namang budget, we go for it. Archery is one of the things I think my husband will truly enjoy, but we’ll not be able to try it pa as we’re preparing for the arrival of our little baby girl bunso this summer. Hehe!

I have always fascinated with Archery but only two years ago I got a chance to hold the bow and the arrow. However I missed the aim to the center, still it was so much fun and laughter. Those few hours we tried was unforgettable. Glad to know you guys enjoyed the sport too. You know, it is always fun to try new things and when we like it, nothing stops. Happy Anniversary to you both! 🙂

Time well spent I will say.
I also liked how you mentioned that the little girl hitting target very well inspired you to try harder! 🙂

That’s a really nice and unique way of celebrating your anniversary. Learning a new sport is always exciting, especially when it doesn’t involve too much physical effort. And practicing it with your loved one is even better. Now I wish there was an archery range around where I live as well, it sounds like a lot of fun.

Congratulations to you Both! Six years is amazing! and its great to know you spend your time together celebrating your year in Archery. I love classic films too and Charlie Chaplin is my all time favorite! when I was a child, I used to watch this in the afternoon and felt really amazed every time I watched it. There is always something special about all these classic films! And bravo for you as you get to see these and being curious on this.
