Life Lately: Mid-February Blues

February 18, 2017

Feeling Blue

Having blues is a normal thing. If you don’t feel it or experience it, then better question yourself if you are a human being. Sharing this Life Lately post about my Mid-February.

Mid-February Blues

The cold weather is present and it has brought the laziness in. Moodswings here and there affecting my whole system. Little as people know, it is hard to live a double life. Being a creative person who is pursuing another degree that requires the logical side of the brain. For me, it has always been a battle between those two. It’s like the dark side of the force against the light side of the force. People may seem to be skeptic allowing the creativity in. However, creative souls out there always seem to find a way to live the creative life. So here’s how my life has been for the past weeks.

Maarteng Letra’s First Pop-up

More than a week ago, I received a great news. Maarteng Letra got invited to do a pop-up at a certain event in Albay. It was a couple fun run hosted by another. The feeling was so exciting that for my creative soul, there’s still hope to make it in the art scene. I have always thought that there’s still something lacking with my output. Sometimes, I am mean to myself thinking that what I do isn’t enough. That sometimes, I need a validation. But I got it! How? It was when I learned that my mom and aunt went to our booth and bought some of our products! It was such a great feeling!

However, for the event itself, it was poorly done. Their promotions were not good enough as well as their logistics. The organizers did a poor job in plugging their event and in fixing the booths. The event was supposed to start by 5pm but my team were there before the starting time. The ingress was late as well.

But, let’s not focus on the negative side but on the bright side of the outcome! We were able to sell our products. I just hope we get more opportunities like this!

Aunt’s Retirement Party

The party happened two (2) days before the pop-up. It was on my aunt’s birthday, the same feast day as St. Scholastica. They celebrated it in Camarines Sur, particularly in Naga. I was supposed to attend the festivities however, it was also during the time of our report. Lucky we were that our professor wasn’t able to attend but the reporting still pushed through. Even if I went home the weekend before that and got lucky with the situation, I was still missing something. In truth, I missed my mom’s retirement party because of a conflict in school as well. I was still doing my undergrad research paper when it happened. Yes, pursuing your dream has really some negative aspects like missing out on events or even letting the toxic ones go.

Consequently, when you reached your goal, it’s all going to be worth it.

That Cold Weather

I have nothing against the cold weather here in Manila. How I wish that the weather will be like this until April or May but we all know that it’s going to be blazing hot by then. It always got me curious as to why the weather affects us in so many ways. From the we dress up to the way we take our bath and ultimately, to the manner on how we get things done.

I have been affected by this weather as well. It triggered my creative side to be active once more. I have been trying to let my other side immerse but damn, the force is really strong! Might as well, just go with the flow.

Time management is the key when you are living in the best of both worlds.

And yes, I’m a Hannah Montana fan and not ashamed of it! So yes, currently, I’m struggling to tame down my creativity and let the other side out too. It’s tough when you have these ideas coming in and out of your brain and other creative opportunities popping out of nowhere. It’s sad to let these go and it’s a sad reality that we are in. The gravity and the love spell that my bed is giving is really enticing. It’s so hard to fight back especially if it’s winning!

#Adulting

This is the part where we all cringe or die a little bit! As you see, being on the freelance side is quite challenging. Well, I mean for those who just started. This is why I keep on reading about freelancers who made it. I always get motivated by them. Working a corporate job while taking up another degree surely consumes a lot of your energy and health. I completely admire those who work a corporate job and still go to school with a lot of units. Ever since I tried working from home, I have faced challenges that I never thought would come. Honestly, I’m glad that my family is supportive of this and even though we don’t agree on some things we still love each other.

Adulting is so hard that sometimes my hair would fall. This is both literally and figuratively speaking. Have you ever felt that the world seems not to want you at all?

Looking for clients is tough and waiting for them is like waiting for someone to court you. So you got to meet them halfway. Present your works and yourself to the world.

The world is truly vicious but you got to be more vicious than them. They will try to bring you down but you have to always remember to stand up every time you fall. Because they will never win the fight if you show them that you can make it!

This is the part where I try to make ends meet. Glad that I meet people along the way who are helpful and so pushing and inspirational. Let’s always remember that He is always there to watch us and the universe always has our back.

Moving Up

This happened after Valentine’s Day but I’m going to share this now because I’m saving it. So anyway, our school just changed the calendar for the nth time. This time, it’s about the midterms schedule. It got moved up one week ahead than the supposed schedule. Everyone almost got sad and at the same time paranoid with the change. I know I haven’t been myself lately but this is torture, I guess. Hurrying the exams won’t cook us al dente. The flavor may not get absorbed hence, a bitter taste will be going through our taste buds.

It felt like summarizing the first half of the term in just weeks? It’s crazy!

Valentine’s Day

It was another Valentine’s Day again. We have been together for almost six (6) years now and Sam always does his surprises! Being in a semi-ldr relationship allows us to see each other during weekends and get separated during weekdays. He leaves for work on Mondays and goes back on Fridays, sometimes on Saturdays if there’s a ton of workload to finish. With this in mind, surprising each other gets trickier by the second. We may have different schedules, and different locations but he always makes it to a point to make me feel kilig and all.

Despite his work schedule, he was still able to surprise me. How? Through the help of his genies! Basically, his genies are composed of his brother (Tyrone), his brother’s girlfriend (Nicole) and his dad. Well, maybe that’s only for 2017. Who knows? Haha!

How did he do it?

He asked what’s my schedule for Tuesday so, I told him about it. At first, I wondered if he’s going to do something or what. But then again, I shrugged that idea. Who knows right? Then around 9am, his brother started calling me but I wasn’t picking up. I did that intentionally because I was still sleeping and I truly love to sleep. Then there was a knock on the door from a guard telling me that there are people wanting to see me. I told the guard to let them up. I live on the 39th floor so there was ample time to catch some zzz again. Next thing I knew, there was someone knocking again. This time it was Nicole. Then Tyrone popped up with a bouquet and chocolate bars. There and there, I knew that it was Sam!

From the colors of the bouquet, to the brand of the chocolate. He knew me and my faves. Those trademark blue roses every Valentine’s and Herhseys chocolate bars.

To be honest, this has been one of the things that lifted up my mood from feeling lost, unproductive and unmotivated the past few days.

Yo te amo, Sam. Hanno sempre, sempre.

P.S. iFlix sent me also a Valentine’s gift. It’s so cute!

I guess that concludes this Life Lately post. It may seem a bit different from the other posts you see. Well, this is my own version and interpretation of the series.

So, how have you been the past few weeks?

I binge watch at iFlix as well. Currently following Emerald City. I like the goodies you receive. Hope they land on my lap in the future!

By the way, it is my first time to hear about retiring party. I always hear about dispidida and all those stuff. I guess this is the best way to celebrate a successful career.

I love the gifts from iFlix! it’s so witty and cute! I actually agree with you.. I mean I know your sentiment when it comes creativity and using the logical aspect of the brain. When I was looking for a course I want to take up in college, my mind says art courses but the other side of me says look for something that will give you better salary after graduating. And here I am, working in the IT industry. Though, I must admit, there are times I wish I just took up what my heart really wants.

I am confused. What’s there to feel blue about? Hahaha. I think the first couple of weeks for you were great. As for the issue with the organizer, those are nothing more than normal occurrences. Nothing is ever perfect, you see. But the best thing was the surprise on Valentine’s that makes the other negative stuff fade!

Aw it’s nice that you were surprised on Valentine’s Day, it must’ve uplifted your mood a lot. I know how hard it can be to motivate yourself in the cold weather. All I want to do is snuggle up on the sofa and watch films or read!

Your February sounds just fine! Cold weather was the worst part in my opinion. I live in cold Nordics and I hate winter haha! I’m sure that my life would be a lot better in somewhere warm and sunny. 🙂

Your Sam is the sweetest. I swear. And his brother and gf can be real helpful, truly! I love it when brothers do things for their siblings and even drag their gfs along with them.

My week was pretty ok. Very hectic schedule but was able to survive.

Why do I relate to you so much? I mean, sure the events and the happenings aren’t similar but every word, and feelings. Me na me. I’ve been feeling blue and lazy during mid-feb as well. I don’t know why. I just feel blue and sad and tired. It’s crazy but I’m starting to feel that drive again, hopefully it would continue. I guess it has something to do with the weather? Haha.
