Last June 19, there was a tribute for the fathers here in Legazpi. It was a concert of some sort but with a twist. It’s almost a week since fathers’ day and here’s my late post about ours.
Fathers’ Day Special
The said concert was held in Albay Astrodome and was produced by Center Stage Production. It was scheduled at 7pm. The tickets that we had were worth of Php 1000 and it was said to belong in the VIP section however when we got there, things were not as good as I imagined it would be.
When we got inside the place, were given green stubs (not stabs because it would mean wounds coming from a sharp object) that would eventually mean the area where we were supposed to sit.
We got disappointed since we thought there were already assigned seats since it was VIP section after all but no. The ushers/usherettes were there but were not really of help. Some were just on their phones or chatting with their fellow ushers/usherettes.
Some of the concert-goers were just standing in front of us and technically blocking our view. I personally thought that it was the job of the ushers/usherettes or the staff to lead them to their seats. Due to the absence of a detailed seat plan, some had no seats because not all tables were filled. Some were occupied yet some were blank.
The food was catered and they branded it as eat all you can so it would appeal to us as a buffet. I got dismayed by the food choices and got me wondering:
If this was an eat all you can event, what are the stubs for?
The food served were:
- Fish Fillet (which I personally liked)
- Bananas (for dessert, I think)
The drink was only iced tea of a berry flavor which my mom said was very sweet for her. She has diabetes so she needs to control her glucose in-take. I personally disliked it so I opted to just have water.
There were various acts before the main event and the performers were children. Before the children performed, there was a “teaser” that would show what trait of a father they were showing. The other videos seemed to be just “grabbed” from a streaming site and not created from scratch to be able to really connect. There was one that seemed from an audio-visual presentation of a wedding. The thought was seen but the execution wasn’t that well.
Truly, the children were amazing on their performance and there was a notable kid who tried performing one of Psy’s songs and he was just adorable. The effort of singing and dancing was really exhilarating. I wasn’t able to capture snippets or a photo of him because I was just busy laughing because I was enjoying his performance. I’d say it was the best among all who performed before the main event.
The Hitmaker: Rey Valera
The real reason why we went there was for the main event, which was seeing and hearing Rey Valera perform his wonderful compositions. Listening to him and seeing him there was really amazing. It cancelled out all the cons/negative things about the event and we really did enjoy.
Some of the songs he sang were:
- Pangako Sa’Yo
- Mr. DJ (although there were two girls who sang it with him)
- Naaalala Ka
- Kung Kailangan Mo Ako
- Maging Sino Ka Man
- Tayong Dalawa
And those are not in particular order. Some were even singing along with Rey Valera and were even moved by his life stories. He mentioned of Rey Bolero (his impostor), then stepping into the musical directing field for films/series. He was just simply amazing!
We left before the concert really ended because we had to commute going home and it was getting late, my aunt has work the next day. We were all happy and relieved to see him in real life!
- Aside from having a Php 1000/VIP ticket, it would be better if the red/blue/green stubs were changed into amounts like Php 3000/Php 2000/Php 1000 so it would be clearer.
- Have reserved seating or a seat plan so as to avoid vacant seats per table.
- More food choices please and also with the drink/s.
- Ushers/usherettes that would really help and/or assist people find seats in time for the show.
- Be strict with the gates/latecomers.
- Children should be with their parents/guardians and not just permitted to wander the area where they could play and eventually disrupt the audience from listening.
